Three Constellium plants achieve ASI certification

Aluminium company Constellium has achieved ASI Performance Standard certification for its German production plants in Singen, Gottmadingen and Dahenfeld.

Aluminium company Constellium has achieved ASI Performance Standard certification for its German production plants in Singen, Gottmadingen and Dahenfeld.

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) has announced that three Constellium plants have been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. The German facilities produce automotive structures, components, systems and assemblies.

The ASI Certification programme was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, indigenous peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions. The independent, third-party audits of the Constellium facilities were carried out by Gutcert (Afnor Group).

<strong>ASI certification “a clear signal to the market”

Fiona Solomon, CEO of ASI said: “ASI congratulates Constellium on their Performance Standard certification covering their Singen, Gottmadingen and Dahenfeld facilities. The use of aluminium for lightweighting in automobiles helps to reduce CO2 emissions and can extend vehicle range, both of which are critical to improving sustainability in the automotive sector. The ASI Certification at these facilities now adds additional assurance of the responsible production process of these materials.”

“The Performance Certification is an important accomplishment by our extrusion and automotive team at Constellium´s site in Singen, Gottmadingen and Dahenfeld,” said Thomas Müller, plant manager at Singen Extrusion in Germany. He continued. “This gives a clear signal to the market that we are serious about a comprehensive and strategic approach to sustainability in our operations. It is a deeply grateful credit in our daily work and sustainability agenda, and in our strategy to help our customers offer aluminium extrusions that are sourced and produced responsibly.”
