Aluminium company Constellium has achieved ASI Performance Standard certification for its German production plants in Singen, Gottmadingen and Dahenfeld.
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) has announced that three Constellium plants have been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. The German facilities produce automotive structures, components, systems and assemblies.
The ASI Certification programme was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, indigenous peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions. The independent, third-party audits of the Constellium facilities were carried out by Gutcert (Afnor Group).

The use of aluminium for lightweighting in automobiles helps to reduce CO2 emissions and can extend vehicle range, both of which are critical to improving sustainability in the automotive sector. The ASI Certification at these facilities now adds additional assurance of the responsible production process of these materials.”
